What It Means to Take Responsibility for an Existing Technology Business

Taking ownership of an established technology business is an exercise in humility.

You don’t start with a blank slate. You inherit systems, clients, habits, and expectations — many of which were built thoughtfully for their time. The challenge is honoring what works while being honest about what must change.

This month marked a personal transition for me as I acquired Matrixforce from its original owner. With that came a clear realization: responsibility isn’t just operational — it’s philosophical.

Clients weren’t buying tools. They were buying trust. They were relying on us to make disciplined decisions on their behalf, often without visibility into the technical details.

That responsibility required clearer language, tighter standards, and a stronger focus on streamlining technology — not adding more of it. Complexity had to be challenged, not accommodated.

Ownership means standing behind outcomes, not just effort. That mindset will go on to shape everything we do.
